Poi Sang Long is one of the most colorful festivals in Thailand.

Young boys between the ages of 7 and 14 are ordained as novices in the Buddhist tradition during this three-day festival. Their ordination ceremony marks the time that they can begin to study the Buddhist doctrines.

In the first day of the Poi Sang Long Festival, the boys shave their heads, bathe, and dress in spectacular outfits. During the second day, they take part in a colorful parade, where monks gather offerings.

The festival takes place in Mae Hong Son provincial Center at Wat Muai Taw, Amphoe Muang. The boys are ordained the in Temple after following the path taken by the Buddha’s son Prince Rahula.
