Starting in 2007, the Abu Dhabi Film festival was created to celebrate the film culture by presenting works by Arab filmmakers from the United Arab Emirates, and throughout the region. A main focus of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival is presenting new voices from within the Arab cinema.

In addition to the schedule of films presented at the film festival, there are also a number of events including master classes, lectures, and workshops in different areas of filmmaking.

Awards are given each year to films in an array of categories including narrative competitions, documentaries, and more.
