Cost: Many events are free but tickets are needed for a few events and can be purchased at the headquarters of the Foundation of Ovar Carnival (Dr. ManuelArala Street, No. 61).

In the Portuguese town of Ovar (roughly 35km from Aveiro and Porto) is where the Carnaval de Ovar takes place each spring.

Considered the craziest folk festival in the country, the Carnaval de Ovar attracts thousands of visitors each year. There is a spectacular parade with colorful costumes, masks and floats. Many participants work throughout the year to prepare for the festive parade.

The parade features troupes orchestrated with themed costumes and march to music ranging from modern pop to traditional tunes.
