In the quaint cobblestone streets of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, every year the town brings visitors back to the medieval ages with the Der Meistertrunk (Masters Draught) festival.

The festival honors Mayor Nusch saved the town from the destruction of General Tilly during the Thirty Years’ War when he was able to empty his goblet in one draught.

The play is performed every Pentecost (Whitsuntide), or the seventh Sunday after Easter with a four-day festival that re-enacts the almost-siege of the town. There are historical military parades through the Old City, historical market, pillage of the Old City, a Kids Place with games and entertainment, live music and more.

In addition to Pentecost, the play is also performed twice more throughout the year, in September and during the autumn Festival, Rothenburg Gerbst, in October.
